Miss World 1971, the 21st edition of the pageant, was held on 10 November 1971 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. 56 contestants competed for the title. That year a 22 years old medicine student conquered the only Miss World crown for Brazil, her name was Lúcia Petterle. Her spontaneous manners and charismatic smile were key elements for her triumph.
All the bets that year were favoring the local candidate from United Kingdom an stunning blonde who will finished 2nd. Miss Portugal who had the best figure from the bunch was 3rd, while the exotic beauties from Guyana and Jamaica finished 4th and 5th respectively. The big contender of the night and the most beautiful face Miss Usa was placed 6th and Miss France was 7th. The other Semi Finalists were, Miss South Africa (a platinum blonde who wore and scandalous dress in Miss Universe 1971), Australia, Israel, Guam, Spain, Austria, Venezuela and Sweden.
Unlike the year before, the event was held without any issues. The boycott that the feminists from the movement Women Lib try to pulled didn't cause any harm outside the theater.

Fun Facts:
The Best National Costume award went to Miss Philippines.
Lucia´s first motivation to participate was the car given to the winner.
Petterle was the only Miss World who did not wanted to traveled to Vietnam in support of the American troops.
