67th place - Lisa Hanna (Jamaica)
"We are all winners in our on way"
Miss World 1993, the 43rd edition of the pageant, was held on 27 November 1993 at the Sun City Entertainment Centre in Sun City,
South Africa. The pageant attracted 81 contestants from all over the
world. That year Miss Jamaica Lisa Hanna was crowned Miss World. The exuberant Hanna, 18, charmed the crowd and judges at Sun City, South Africa, to win the title. The presenter was superstar Pierce Brosnan, and the judges included
actor Jackie Chan; Vanessa Williams, actor
Louis Gossett Jr and, importantly, Jamaica's Grace Jones, actor and
singer. Hanna would serendipitous choose Jones in the judges question
section. "If you won the Miss World crown, is there anyone else whom you
think could have won?"
"I said I did not think I was the most beautiful, and many of the girls
could have won and I would have been very happy for them. They picked up
the sincerity in my response, Hanna said.
This Jamaican beauty overcame the local favorite from South Africa who finished 2nd and the beautiful Miss Philippines who placed 3rd. The effortless beauty from Croatia finished 4th while the big favorite from Venezuela ended 5th. On the other hand the ladies from Finland, Sweden, Usa, Korea and France completed the top 10. Miss Photogenic was Denmark, Best National Costume was India and Miss Personality Italy.
In
2002 Lisa was appointed the new Minister of Youth and Culture of
Jamaica, Hanna is a communications consultant and has been involved in
her country’s politics for a few years.
